The Bowel Cancer Trust was founded in 1998 to raise money for two colonoscopes and by 2001 having raised over £70,000 these were purchased, and with money in the Trust for additional equipment when needed.

A Harmonic Scalpel has also been purchased costing over £12,500. This uses sound waves making conventional surgery by cutting with a scalpel unnecessary. This has enabled the development of keyhole surgery for Bowel Cancer in Milton Keynes.

In 2006, and the need for more funds to be raised so that a Simulator could be purchased, once again the public has been asked for help. This Simulator, not unlike the ones used to train pilots, is required for doctors to be trained to the highest standards in the use of colonoscopes rather than training with patients.
