Bowel Cancer Trust at Milton Keynes Hospital

The Bowel Cancer Trust at Milton Keynes Hospital was launched in 1998 to raise £70,000 for urgently needed medical equipment. With the help of the people of Milton Keynes with fundraising, two film premieres, "The Next Best Thing" with Madonna and Rupert Everett and "102 Dalmatians" starring Glenn Close, concerts, fashion shows, fetes, charity lunches, gala dinners, BBQ’s, Christmas lights, London Marathon etc. Support also came from Lions and other Clubs. The target was reached within three years and the equipment purchased. (Two Colonoscopes).

Now, in 2006, there is the need for more medical equipment and in particular a simulator to train doctors to the highest standards in the use of Colonoscopes. Currently, they are training with patients. The most recent purchase made from previous Bowel Cancer Trust donations has been a Harmonic Scalpel, which uses sound waves instead of the conventional scalpel.

Bowel Cancer is the second largest cause of cancer death after lung cancer.

Donations to the Bowel Cancer Trust at Milton Keynes Hospital would help to buy this simulator, which costs £70,000.

As with the 1998 appeal The Bowel Cancer Trust has once again been adopted as the Citizen newspaper charity.
