
Diagnosis
Bowel Cancer is a major killer and the second largest cause of death from cancer after lung cancer.
A colonosocope is used by the doctor to look directly at the lining of the large bowel. (the colon), and is a long flexible tube, about the thickness of the index finger, with a bright light and small camera at the end. The doctor gets a clear view of the procedure on a television monitor and can detect, and if necessary remove, any polyps that may be found during the colonoscopy. Patients requiring a colonoscopy would be sent the appropriate information leaflet beforehand.
